It has long been observed, though not without some contestation across the relevant literatures, that the demand curve, in most of its conventional specifications, tends, ceteris paribus, to slope downward, a tendency which, it has been variously argued, may be attributable in part to the income effect and in part to the substitution effect, though the precise decomposition thereof has remained, and in many quarters continues to remain, a matter of no small methodological dispute.
- ceteris paribus
- all else held equal
- substitution effect
- buyers switch to alternatives
- income effect
- the same budget buys less

Syft reorders the material into the order that makes it understandable, defines terms before they are used, and marks the load-bearing claims.
Read
Plain second person, short sentences, no hedging. Nothing that matters is removed, and you can always see exactly what was cut.

Why it is built this way
Reordering material into the order it becomes understandable reduces re-reading.
Defining a term before the argument that uses it, not during, lowers cognitive load.
Marking load-bearing claims lets readers allocate attention where it matters.
Cutting hedging and repetition without removing claims keeps comprehension intact.

Questions
Does it cut things I will be assessed on?
Syft is instructed never to remove a claim, a condition, a caveat that changes when something holds, a number, or a named study the argument depends on, and to record every other removal. It can still make mistakes, the way any summary can. Everything it reports cutting is listed in the cuts view below the rebuilt reading, so you can check its work against the original.
Can I see what was removed?
Yes. A button under the rebuilt reading shows every word that was cut, struck through and greyed. That is how you verify nothing was lost.
Does it work on phone photos?
Not yet. Syft reads PDFs that contain selectable text, and text you paste in. Scanned pages and photos are not supported yet.
